Calgary Obtains Building

Written by Ray Pennings
With thanksgiving to God for opening the doors of providence, on July 1st the Calgary Free Reformed church plant became the owners of an industrial condominium unit. They hope to convert this into a place suitable for meeting and worship. This unit was conditionally purchased in March and on May 19th the required approval from the City of Calgary was received. A contractor has since been selected with work scheduled to be completed by the end of the summer. The total cost will be approximately $350,000 of which $50,000 has been raised locally and $250,000 is being financed by members of the Free Reformed denomination. In May, the Home Missions Committee sent a letter to each consistory asking that consideration be given to helping the Calgary church plant raise the required funds for this building. The purchase of a building has been seen as urgent considering the group presently meets in a commercial hotel and there are no other suitable facilities available for rent in the booming Calgary economy.
