Local Church Events

Written by Pator J.W. and Ria Wullschleger
The Alberta churches have combined their efforts to reach out with the Gospel. Beginning October 3 they broadcast via the AM 1140 dial every Sunday morning from 9:00 to 9:30 am. The messages are prepared by pastor J. Schoeman on a two-month trial. We quote from the Monarch bulletin, ÒPlease pray that this form of outreach may be blessed to the strengthening of faith and the conversion of many.Ó

Cowichan Valley
The attendance at the Cowichan Valley home mission station has dwindled considerably over the past months. It has come to a point that the Abbotsford consistory had to discontinue the worship services for the time being. We hope that we may hear good reports again in the near future.

The Calgary home mission station has found a new meeting place for their Sunday worship services. Starting September 12, they meet at Blackfoot Inn. The service times are 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., enabling them to share pastors again with Lacombe. All this took place on a two-week notice from the McKenzie Towne Community Church terminating their rental agreement. Finding another location so soon is an answer to prayer. In the meantime, the members are looking for a church where they can worship in the future. Potentially a door is opened that Calgary may have its own building. ÒMuch prayerful work needs to be done before any permanent decisions can be made, but we rejoice in God's gracious dealings with us in our need.Ó

The Wellandport congregation has started the construction of a church building. A groundbreaking ceremony was held on Friday, September 10. Pastor Eric Moerdyk spoke, taking Psalm 67 as his text. The building project is planned to be finished at the end of April 2005. The congregation has also purchased a 13-rank pipe organ from a Christian Reformed Church that no longer uses it. In the words of pastor Moerdyk, ÒWe are very excited as a congregation by the developments.Ó
