For this gospel message, the subject is the Person and work of the Holy Spirit. We will look at this topic from the perspective of Luke 1 and 2 with the whole story of Jesus' birth. It is something to notice how much the Holy Spirit is involved in the whole Christmas story! Consider with me how Elizabeth, and Zacharias, and Simeon, and Mary, and John the Baptist too, were each so filled with the Spirit and led by the Holy Spirit. This comes out in Luke 1 and 2 over and over. Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit [Luke 1:41]; Zacharias was filled with the Holy Spirit [Luke 1:66], and Simeon had the Holy Spirit upon him, [Luke 2:25], and we know the Holy Spirit came upon Mary in a most unique, mysterious, and miraculous way according to Luke 1:35, and that John the Baptist was filled with the Holy Spirit even from his mother's womb [Luke 1:15]. See with me now, from all their stories, the following seven truths about God, the Holy Spirit, and believing and having Him in you and with you.

For one, isn't the Holy Spirit the Spirit of marvelous direction? When you have the Holy Spirit, He directs you in the ways of the gospel and in line with His Word. It was the Holy Spirit that prompted Mary with Gabriel's words about Elizabeth to go with haste and visit her who had miraculously too in her old age been pregnant already for six months! It was the Holy Spirit Who directed baby John in the womb to make an extra jump and major movement in the womb with Mary's coming. We know this for sure, for in Luke 1:15 Gabriel had told Zacharias that their child would be "filled with the Holy Spirit even from his mother's womb.
