Local Church Events

Written by Rev. J.W. Wullschleger
The Publications Committee has appointed me to start a column on local church events. The purpose is that we as churches will become better informed about each other and stay in touch. One way to achieve this goal is by sharing events that happen in our churches.

You will understand that not all the news relevant to a local congregation is suited for publication in our church magazine. Therefore, we will choose only those news items that in our view are relevant to all of us. We ask you not to take offence if certain information is not published. We will try to be as objective as possible in selecting news items. Our purpose is to highlight major news and events that relate to:

*Building, purchase, renovation of churches;

*Important highlights in the congregation, such as the anniversaries of institution;

*Ordination/ installation/ farewell of minister;

*Projects, such as volunteer work of youth groups, mission field trips, work groups for Word & Deed and other projects, etc.

If necessary, we will follow up on news items by contacting the bulletin editor or pastor. Please keep in mind that this column is not meant to be an announcement page of births, weddings, etc., but only a record of what is going on in the churches.

In order to set this up, we ask each congregation as well as the home mission and preaching stations, to send their bulletins on a weekly basis (or bi-weekly, whichever applies). From some we receive their bulletins already. Since e-mail is the most efficient way of doing this, the churches are asked to send their bulletins to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. The deadline for publication is, generally speaking, the middle of the month. Any information received after this will have to wait until the next month.

Since The Messenger is a monthly magazine, it seems unavoidable that some of the information will appear some time after the event has taken place. Because this column will present what we have gleaned from the bulletins, we think that a suitable title would be Gleanings from the churches. These gleanings will be as brief and concise as space allows.

It is the expectation of the Publications Committee that this new column will fill a need and it is hoped that it may serve as a means of the bonding of our churches. The column will appear on a trial basis and if it is found that it does not serve its purpose, it will be discontinued upon evaluation. In order that I do not carry this burden alone, my wife has promised to assist me in this work. Please bear with us, as we anticipate some Ògrowing pains.Ó
