Lisa Beamer - A Positive Note From September 11

Written by Rev. H.A Bergsma
Charisma News Service notes that Lisa Beamer, the widow of the Flight 93 hero, Todd Beamer, has been selected as one of People magazine's "25 Most Intriguing People of 2001" for the way she has spoken "eloquently of the need to move on in life without hatred." The 32-year-old mother of two (now three) has emerged as a symbol of national strength since September 11, says People. Beamer's husband died as he and other passengers tackled hijackers on a flight over Pennsylvania, preventing the plane from hitting a fourth target. According to Charisma, People made no direct reference to the Beamers' strong Christian faith, but it was "clearly reflected in a moving Christmas Eve interview on CNN." Beamer told how her faith had helped her through a previous tragedy, losing her father as a 17-year-old. "Just because I have faith in God doesn't mean that He is going to prevent every horrible thing from happening to me, or take me away from the difficulties that this world brings to us, but that He is going to screen those difficulties and only allow those in that He wanted to allow in," she told CNN's Larry King. Since then, Lisa Beamer has given birth to a girl at a New Jersey hospital. Lisa, known for her unflagging sense of hope in the midst of tragedy as well as her courage, has become a national symbol of strength. She is also founder and CEO of the Todd Beamer Foundation, a non-profit organization set up to help the children affected by the crash of Flight 93 as well as other children who lost parent(s) in the September 11 terrorist attacks. While Lisa expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support and the thoughtfulness of others at the arrival of her new child, she asked that in lieu of baby gifts, interested individuals make a donation to the Todd M. Beamer Foundation or to a local charity benefiting children. (From Religion Today)

It is a good note that has come to us among all the sad notes of September 11. It is particularly good to see that the world does recognize a Christian and notice what faith in God can do. May the Lord bless Lisa Beamer and her three little children.
