Radio Ministry

Written by Rev. Hans Overduin
How important is the Word of God! How urgent that people hear the proclamation of the gospel message. We are living in the Òlast daysÓ and Òlast timesÓ (Acts 2:17; 2 Tim. 3:1; Hebrews 1:2; 1 Peter 1:20; 1 John 2:18). In anticipation of ChristÕs second coming and till that final day, when the last and eternal judgment of all will take place, it is GodÕs revealed will that His Word be proclaimed throughout the length and breadth of the earth (Acts 1:8).

The Word of God is described in Scripture as the incorruptible seed which lives and abides forever, and the instrument of the Holy Spirit whereby He works with quickening, regenerating power according to His sovereign good pleasure (1 Peter 1:23). Of His own will begat He us with the word of truthÉ (James 1:18a]. The Word is the sword of the Spirit according to Ephesians 6:17. By means of the gospel of Jesus Christ, there is yet hope for all perishing sinners in this world. Only the Holy Bible proclaims the true and only message of salvation through Jesus Christ, the crucified and risen Saviour. We are so familiar with the message and have a general knowledge of the Bible from Genesis to Revelation, but many have no real understanding of the message of Holy Scripture.

As we draw nearer and nearer to the final day, there is every reason to become more zealous in getting the Word out. We go about our work of Gospel ministry convinced and convicted about the truthfulness of what Peter says in Acts 4:12, Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other Name under heaven, given among men, whereby we must be saved. How can people come to realize their sins and sinfulness? ÒOut of the law of God.Ó From where can we know the gospel? ÒFrom the holy gospel, which God Himself first revealed in Paradise; and afterwards published by the patriarchs and prophets, and represented by the sacrifices and other ceremonies of the law; and lastly, has fulfilled it by His only begotten SonÓ (Heidelberg Catechism, Question & Answer 3 and 19). Hearing what the Scriptures say and what we declare in our Reformed Confessions about the Holy Bible and its message should motivate and compel us to sow the seed of GodÕs Word. The Lord promises the sowing will not be in vain (Isa.55: 8ff).

With the above in mind, we share with you the following responses to the Banner of Truth radio ministry.

Seeing that most of our responses come from Africa, as of February 1, 2004, we have begun broadcasting on a new station, Radio Africa East reaching Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Malawi, and Zambia. Many letters from Africa include requests for literature, and we make a point of responding to all correspondence sent to us. Three times per year we send printed copies of several messages to individual addresses, which includes over 300 International, over 350 in USA, and about 100 in Canada. With the increase in postage, there is an increase in the cost of this mailing.

Thanks be to God for your continued support of the radio ministry, both prayerfully and financially. In closing, consider the following exhortation from a saint of old: ÒBe always tenderly yearning for sinners. This is a happy unhappiness. A man full of Christ-like tears is a noble creature. Such concern melts men, and tells with GodÓ (Thomas CollinsÑquoted in the latest excellent and edifying book by Iain H. Murray entitled, Wesley, and Men Who Followed, Banner of Truth Trust, p.212).
