Religion Vs Gays

Written by Rev. H.A. Bergsma
Religious leaders from several faiths denounced homosexuality at a Washington, D.C., press conference Aug. 12. "We the religious people have to start to act up" in protest of a homosexual agenda, Orthodox Rabbi Yehuda Levin said. Homosexuality is a sin that is "contrary to the express will of God," Baptist minister Jerome McFarland said. Family Research Council, a Christian public policy group, organized the news conference to counter the gay rights agenda. "It's the homosexual lobby that's changing laws," FRC's Steve Schwalm said. "That's why we've had to respond." Gay rights activists said the group is gay-bashing.

"It's simply wrong to use God as an excuse for name calling," Tracy St. Pierre of the Human Rights Campaign said. However, at the same time, various ministries are experiencing a "severe backlash" from ads about homosexuals, Intercessors For America said. Bob Davies of Exodus International, Anthony Falzarano of Transformation Christian Ministries, James Dobson of Focus on the Family, Gary Bauer of the Family Research Counsel, and D. James Kennedy of Coral Ridge Ministries "report incidents of legal recrimination, threats, continuing harassment, slander, and a firestorm of controversy" after sponsoring the ads, the Leesburg, Va., ministry said. A series of ads published in major newspapers in July offered help to people who want to leave the homosexual lifestyle.

It is quite correct for the Christian religion to speak out against blatant sin. We have far too long been quiet. But as we speak out, we must also recognize that this will speed up the approach of persecution. The world, hostile to Christ and His Word, will not take it lying down.
