Bavinck Eschatology Translation Completed

Written by Rev. H.A. Bergsma
The Dutch Reformed Translation Society (DRTS) has announced the completion of its first sponsored translation project. The 251-page (plus introduction and bibliography) manuscript translation of Dr. Herman BavinckÕs Over de Laatste Dingen (On the Last Things) the 11th and last chapter of his Reformed Dogmatics, was delivered to the publisher, Baker Book House of Grand Rapids, for publication for Spring 1996. Dr. Herman Bavinck (1854-1921) was a contemporary and close associate of Abraham Kuyper. His work was relied upon substantially by later theologians Louis Berkhof and G.C. Berkouwer. This translation, an $80,000 project, will be the first complete translation of BavinckÕs systematic theology. At its meeting (chaired by Rev. P. VanderMeyden, president of DRTS) on September 12, 1995, the DRTS board decided to translate chapter 5, on ÒCreation and Providence,Ó of BavinckÕs Reformed Dogmatics as the next section to be published. The board requires an additional $10,000 to begin this work. (From United Reformed News Service)

BavinckÕs systematic theology is well worth studying. A sample of his work can already be enjoyed by reading The Doctrine of God, as translated by Dr. William Hendriksen. The DRTS is to be commended for its ambitious project.
