Australia Senate Legally Bans Same Sex Marriage

Written by Rev. H.A. Bergsma
On Friday, August 13, the Australian Senate voted to ban same sex marriage by an overwhelming vote of 38 to 7. The vote will alter the Australian Marriage Act to include the phrases: ÒMarriage means the union of a man and a woman to the exclusion of all others, voluntarily entered into for life." "Certain unions are not marriages. A union solemnized in a foreign country between: (a) a man and another man; or (b) a woman and another woman; must not be recognized as a marriage in Australia." The law was enacted partially in response to Australian homosexuals, married in Ontario, Canada, who expressed the desire to have their union recognized in their home country. Earlier this year, Australian homosexuals who were "married" in Ontario, Canada said they would petition the courts to have their union declared valid and legal in their home country. Rather than have the issue decided in the courts, Australian lawmakers chose to explicitly ban homosexual marriage. (From Christian Coalition International Canada)

This is how it should be. May our governments yet be persuaded to follow the example of Australia in this common sense action to defend the traditional family.
