Sri Lanka Postpones Persecution

Written by Rev. H.A. Bergsma
Following the escalation of rebel activity, the parliament of Sri Lanka has postponed debate on a new religion law. The proposed law would ban all foreign missionaries from the country and prohibit all forms of proselytism. The measure is promoted by Buddhist leaders in parliament, who want to enshrine Buddhist dominance in Sri Lanka. In late April, a group of church leaders met with the Minister of Justice in Sri Lanka, voicing their concern about the new law. After the postponement no new time for the debate has been scheduled. The official government has been carefully neutral about the bill. (From REC News Exchange)

One wonders when the door of missions will shut in countries like Sri Lanka.
